If you have any that you’d like to add yourself, please get in touch and send it to info [at] thesoniclab.com (the [at] stands for @, it’s just to stop all those annoying spam bots!)

So what’s next? We loved putting on the show in Cable, and will be using it as our base of operations for the foreseeable future. We’re love the idea of collaborations so if you have a project that you’d like to see at our events, contact us on the email address above.

We want to put on the best show we can for you, so your suggestions are invaluable, send us ideas of Acts/DJ’s/Art installations/Bands you’d like to see at The Sonic Lab and we’ll make sure the most popular get booked!

In the mean time, our good friends at The Centrifuge have two killer events going on this month, the first a mid-week jam with Ed DMX on the 8th of June at The Macbeth, and the second being an amazing mega-rave on the 5th in Peckham!

A really good blog post on how police assess nightclub related violence

The police have made amendments, when I had first heard about Form 696 the Police wanted not only the details and ethnicity of the performers (including real names and addresses), but also the likely ethnicity of the crowd (obviously with the perceived relation between violent crime and the Afro-Carribean community)

What does this mean to me? Nothing at the moment, but due to there being a room which will include the music listed there is a likelihood I’ll be subject to the form. Due to Cable being in Southwark the council have imposed some really draconian security measures (something that both myself and the club would prefer not to have but will happily abide by to conform to the restrictions). They were brought in due to the high level of gun and violent crime outside some very well known nightclubs in the area.

Either way, read the blog that I put up, it’s very interesting stuff (mostly about the politics of nightclubs/dancing and the fear governments and police have of large groups of people)

At over 10 times their original price, the TB-303 bassline synth by Roland still command a respectable (read: Stupid) price on the second hand market.

Programming the thing isn’t too tricky if someone who knows shows you, if you don’t know anyone but have the manual it gonna be a hard mountain to climb (the manual was translated from Japanese, to Korean and then into English, and badly done every step of the way) If you have neither you’re chances of working out how to use one is practically nil.

So why do people pay so much money for them? Especially when there are hardware clones (such as the x0xb0x that uses the same components) Well it’s because there’s just something about them. Even the most seasoned circuit heads can’t work out why the thing sounds the way it does.

Anyway here’s a couple of videos dedicated to my love of a fragile, ridiculously expensive, far too limited (even by 1981 standards!) and horribly confusing synth. Oh and it pretty much kick started an entire culture/art form/industry/social experiment.

Tb-303 Vs. X0xb0x, the ultimate test!

Hello!

This is Alex, director and head promoter of The Sonic Lab. This is our first introductory post and hopefully the first of many.

The Sonic Lab is more than just another night, it’s the collaboration of some of the finest promoters, artists and techical crews in Europe. Our goal is to create some of the most immersive, compelling nights in London. To achieve this we are using some of the finest sound systems and visual rigs around! All in a brand new club (which is something rare for London)

We are aiming for an ecclectic mash up of genres, from chilled out dub to face melting gabber and everything in between. We hope as the weeks go by for you to be as excited to attend our launch event as we are organising it!

Expect plenty more media and blog posts to come, including how to get involved yourself!

Happy trails,

Alex wintermute.
